Unlike the sprawling golf and villa resorts at Westmoreland and Black Bess with hundreds of property owners and their guests crowding the beach, Mullins Ridge will only have about a dozen properties so their foot print on the beach will not be as large as the other two - or so we hope. Mullins Ridge is only one of at least three (3) nearby landlocked resorts the Pimento Group has under construction or on the drawing boards (the other two are located at Maynards, St. Peter and Mt. Standfast, St. James), so guess where all of these million dollar luxury property owners will want to see and be seen - Mullins Beach! One thing is certain, Mullins Beach will never be the same again. It has changed and is changing not necessarily for the good of all. The sleepy little cove of casuarinas and poinsettias has given way to umbrella drinks and backrubs.
“The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!
Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon;
lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the
uncircumcised triumph.” --- King David

lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the

Another sad chapter in the life of Mullins Beach. When these clubs spread their loungers all over the beach nothing will be left for daytripers and the local people. It will then be for all intents and purposes a private beach.
ReplyDeleteWell, it is looking like we will not be seeing that third beach club on Mullins Beach after all, at least not anytime soon and certainly not as previously conceptualized. Word in the blogsphere is that the company behind the project - Pimento Group - is the latest victim of the global credit crunch and recession. Reportedly, work on their project at Maynards has also been halted.
