Trust me, if you mess with nature it will fight back. Lots of changes have been made along the coastal area that are unwarranted. I grew up about five minutes from the beach and I have never seen the changes that are taking place along the coastal area like what is happening now. The sea might be lovely and refreshing but I have seen what it can do as I saw what happened when hurricane Janet struck the island. The people living in the hilly area of the island have much to be thankful for.
High Water : 7/1/2009
When I was young, beach erosion came with storms and rough seas. However, within a few days to a week, the sea naturally returned the sand to the beach. These people have took away the sand building groynes and now there is no beach just ugly. It's one way of keeping you out of their backyard!It will be to their detriment because without the beach,the water just swells that is why the people had such a difficult time walking. God help the owners if there is a storm. Ain't no groynes gonna keep back the water at their backdoor. They are spoiling our beaches and should stop building those groynes.There should have never been given permission to build them.If they are allow to keep building those things, you won't have to worry about keeping people off the beaches because our pretty beaches would be extinct like the dinosaurs.

BUT THEN AGAIN ALL THEM COASTAL MANAGEMENT TEAM GOT BOOK KNOWLEDGE BUT BASIC COMMON SENCE ON HOW THINGS WORK THEM ENT GOT, YOU CANT EXPECT TO PUSH THE SEA BACK AND DONT THINK THAT IT WILL AFFECT THE GEOGRAPH OF THE ISLAND.I WONDER WHEN THE LAST TIME WAS THAT ANYONE CHECK TO SEE IF BARBADOS STILL HAVE THE SAME GEO SHAPE. IM SURE EVEN THE MAPS WANTS UPDATING.

Move those Groynes !!!! : 6/30/2009
It seems to me that it is time for the Government to get involved and do something about this before all is lost. Having grown up and lived in this area for many decades I can honestly state that we've never seen anything of the likes of what has only just recently happened. It is the opinion of many of us that these groynes are directly responsible for the level of erosion that we are currently seeing. All the scientific evidence bears this out. We need to stop exchanging opinions and start on a deconstructing plan for these groynes.

Call themselves coastal managers and none of them even bothered to check the tide tables when scheduling this beach walk. Schuuuuuuuuuuupse! With this level of intelligence guiding CZMU there is little wonder why they blundered on the groynes. Schuuuuuuuuuuupse!

Beach erosion, 95% of the time comes from ice melt. As the ice melts in North America, Greenland, and the south pole it will effect the seas world wide.

The dumb fool that I am will continue to advise the big brains that you don't mess with nature. We didn't put the sea there and try as you might to shape or reshape or change and save what ain't yours, the sea will always return to it's original position. We need to shape our brains and understand nature and stop trying to shape the coastline to our greedy liking. Eventually the sea is ging to "car" way the sand and much more if we don't stop. What else do we need to educate us with all the proof around. 'There is none so blind......" DUMB
Taking Responsibility : 6/29/2009
Glad to see Dr. Brewster finally and publicly taking responsibility for these groynes that are destroying the beaches in Road View and Mullins. I hope he is proud of his legacy and the environmental and economic nightmare it is creating for his fellow Bajans and visiting tourists.
